REVERSAAL’s research and experimentation platform, located at the site of the La Feyssine treatment plant (near Lyon), serves to extend current knowledge of the complex phenomena inherent in the treatment of urban wastewater. The facility offers a tool to provide all actors involved, whether public or private, with the information needed to improve the design and technical management of all treatment sectors handling wastewater, in the aim of promoting resource preservation and sustainable use. Thanks to its privileged location next to the plant, the platform has access to wastewater and sludge during their various treatment stages. Accordingly, in situ experiments can be conducted by means of real-time extractions directly from the plant.

Testing facilities

  1. Two semi-industrial pilots (3 m3) of the activated sludge type, transformable into other waste handling sectors (MBBR or IFAS, SBR)
  2. Four reed filter or sand filter configurations of pilot operations
  3. Two membrane assemblies for advanced wastewater treatment.

Applications

Development, evaluation and optimization of wastewater treatment processes, primarily featuring urban and domestic components:

  1. Intensive aerobic biological treatments
  2. Extensive biological treatments
  3. Byproduct treatment and reuse: Sewage sludge drying by means of extensive systems
  4. Development of managerial decision-making tools (modeling)
  5. Characterization of the discharges into surface waters (both major pollutants and micropollutants).
